New Medical Director Continues Family Legacy of Physicians

Walnut Hills has a very unique history with its Medical Directors and campus physicians. It’s a history of longevity and family.

Dr. Zak Boyd was recently named the new Medical Director at Walnut Hills. He is only the third physician to serve in that position since Walnut Hills was founded in 1971.

He took over the position that was held by his father, Dr. Kim Boyd, who retired in December after serving in the position for 14 years and seeing patients at Walnut Hills for many more years (since 1978).

Dr. Dan Miller served as the first Medical Director at Walnut Hills, holding the position from 1971 to 2005.

His son, Dr. Eric Miller also comes regularly to campus to see patients.

“I always knew I wanted to return to Holmes County to practice medicine in my home community. My experience
as an STNA at Walnut Hills strengthened my desire to serve the older adult population in the area,” said Dr. Zak Boyd. “My father was and is a role model for me. His compassion, humility, and care for those in need inspire me to become a better doctor and person. I hope to continue the personal level of care he provided over the past four decades.”

Dr. Zak Boyd is a 1999 graduate of Hiland High School. After college, he worked as a nursing assistant at the Walnut Hills Nursing Home. Upon completion of his medical education, he returned home in 2013 to join East Holmes Family Care.

Dr. Zak and his wife, Shawna, live near Berlin with their two children.

We are fortunate to have such quality, caring physicians to serve Walnut Hills and our residents. We are thankful for their dedication.
