Finding Peace, Purpose, and Community at Chicago Trail Village
When Randy heads out with his camera, he never knows exactly what he will discover.
Some days, it may be a covered bridge tucked away in the countryside. Other days, it may be a soaring eagle, a colorful sunset, or the perfect moonrise over northern Indiana. Photography gives him a reason to explore, capture special moments, and share the beauty he finds along the way.
After returning home, Randy might spend the afternoon baking cookies or another favorite treat to share with neighbors and staff—a simple gesture that reflects the kindness and connection found throughout Chicago Trail Village.
For the past 10 years, Randy has called Chicago Trail Village at Hamilton Grove home. “I love the peace and quiet,” he says. That sense of peace is something many residents appreciate about Chicago Trail Village. Located on Hamilton Grove’s beautiful campus in New Carlisle, the community has provided affordable independent living for seniors since opening in 1981. This year, Chicago Trail Village celebrates 45 years of offering a place where residents can enjoy independence, friendships, and a true sense of belonging.
With 102 ground-level apartments surrounded by open green space and mature trees, residents have the freedom to enjoy life at their own pace. Some enjoy hobbies, gardening, volunteering, and time outdoors, while others connect with neighbors through activities, educational programs, shopping and dining outings, yoga, and cardio drumming. An optional weekday meal program, on-site beauty shop, and maintenance-free living give residents more time to focus on what matters most.
While the peaceful surroundings and amenities make Chicago Trail Village a special place to live, residents often say the greatest part of the community is the people. Over the years, neighbors have built lasting friendships, welcomed newcomers, supported one another, and created the warm atmosphere that makes Chicago Trail Village feel like home.
Chicago Trail Village offers HUD-subsidized, income-based housing for qualifying adults age 62 and older. The program helps make affordable independent living possible without sacrificing comfort, convenience, or community. Each one-bedroom apartment features a full kitchen, individually controlled heating and air conditioning, and accessibility features designed with residents in mind. Small pets are welcome, too.
For Randy, it’s the peaceful surroundings, the freedom to enjoy his passions, and the neighbors who have become friends. For others, it may be the activities, the convenience, or simply having a place where they feel comfortable and at home.
As Chicago Trail Village celebrates 45 years, it’s not just celebrating a milestone—it’s celebrating the people who have made this community home. To learn more, call 574-654-2300 or TTY Relay Service: 711.
