100th Birthday Festival, August 21, 2022, at the Hamilton Grove campus
We’ll kick-off our centennial year with a 100th birthday party on Sunday, August 21, 2022, on the campus of Hamilton Grove.
Old friends, new friends, team members, residents, and their families are all invited to a special outdoor worship service at 11 a.m. followed by a hog roast, vintage car show, games, live music, and special presentations.
Mark your calendars, so you don’t miss this fun-filled afternoon!
A highlight will be the unveiling of plans for a Woodland Trail and community park on the campus. You’ll learn a little bit of history and ways we’re continuing the legacy of our founders, Arminia and Haven Hubbard.
Theirs is a love story worth telling. Haven met Arminia in 1894 when she was hired to care for his ailing mother. After his mother died, Haven kept Arminia on as his housekeeper. The two fell in love and married in 1909.
They had no children, so devoted their time to growing the farm. Haven’s dream was to eventually use the property to provide housing and care for the elderly, particularly ministers and missionary families. He died in 1916 passing on the farm — and his dream – to his widow.
Arminia made sure Haven’s dream came true.
In 1920, she gave her 700-acre property to a church trust to create the Haven Hubbard Memorial Old People’s Home. In 1922, construction was completed on Epp Hall, the first residential building.
Arminia managed to keep the home and farm going through the Great Depression and two world wars. She lived and worked on the campus until her death in 1946.
Fast forward to 2022, and the original homestead still stands at the entry to Hamilton Grove. The campus is now an affiliate of Greencroft Communities, with 275 residents and 150 staff.
We can’t think of a better way to celebrate 100 years of service than by opening up the campus for a birthday party. We hope you’ll join us!
And stay tuned as the details for more centennial events are announced.
