Making a Difference at Hamilton Grove: Team Member Spotlight: Yaw Twum, CNA
If you’ve walked the halls of Hamilton Grove’s healthcare center over the past two decades, chances are you’ve heard the sound of laughter drifting from a resident’s room. More often than not, it’s Yaw’s warm voice carrying the punchline, followed by the delighted chuckle of someone whose day just got brighter.
For 21 years, Yaw has been more than a Certified Nursing Assistant—he’s been a steady, joyful presence. He greets each resident as though they were lifelong friends. His care is never just about helping with daily needs; it’s about building moments—moments of connection, joy, and belonging.
“What I love most is that I get the chance to talk to the residents and put smiles on their faces,” Yaw says. “I like to tell them about my life when I lived in Africa. Most don’t know why I came to this country, so I share my story with them, and it makes them happy.”
“I don’t have my mom and dad anymore, and when I come in, I look at these residents like they are them,” he continues. “The way I’d want someone to take care of my mom—that’s how I need to take care of our residents.” It’s no surprise that many now call him “son,” a title he treasures.
Before coming to Hamilton Grove, Yaw worked as a social worker in Africa, walking alongside people in their hardest seasons. That calling—to help, to lift up, to care without condition—still shapes every interaction. “It doesn’t matter what you need—I’ll do my best to help, guide, or care for you,” he says. “God has made me who I am, and I want to give back. Hamilton Grove has taken great care of me, and I want to do the same for others.”
His kindness extends beyond residents to the newest members of the care team. With more than two decades of experience, Yaw has a quiet gift for mentoring. “There are things you can’t necessarily learn in a classroom,” he explains. “If I see someone struggling, I help. We’re all here for the same reason—taking the best care of our residents.”
Day after day, Yaw’s steady presence reminds everyone at Hamilton Grove of what caregiving truly means: showing up with compassion, listening with the heart, and treating each person like family. In his laughter, in his stories, and in his gentle care, Yaw lives out the truth that the best medicine isn’t always found in a bottle—it’s found in love.
