Windsor of Savoy Stories
Illini Basketball Dream Comes True
While it may not “officially” be a criterion on the application to become a resident, most folks at The Windsor of Savoy in Illinois are lifelong, die-hard University of Illinois “Fighting Illini” fans. Gale Brandner is no exception.
That’s why it wasn’t hard at all for her to complete an application last spring for the 2025 Resident Dreams Program through the Greencroft Communities Foundation. Gale dreamed of attending a Fighting Illini men’s basketball game with her sister and fellow Windsor resident, Glenna. Of course, she had to wait until basketball season to live the dream, but since she’d already waited her whole life, a few more months didn’t matter.
When it came time to attend the February 4, 2026, Big Ten game against Northwestern University, there was no better escort for the sisters than Windsor of Savoy front desk attendant Kolin Dugle. Kolin, a senior at U of I studying recreation, sports and tourism, is (unsurprisingly) also a fervent Illini fan.
As a savvy 20-something, Kolin easily Uber-ed with the sisters to a pre-game dinner and then to the arena. He got them settled in their accessible seats with popcorn and Diet Cokes and cheered with them as Illini crushed Northwestern with a final score of 84-44.
“We got the royal treatment,” reported Gale. “This was a once-in-a-lifetime blessing and is without a doubt our highlight of the year!”
Kolin also felt blessed by the experience. “I came to work at The Windsor of Savoy because of my passion for serving and supporting seniors,” he reflected. “Serving our residents gives me a strong sense of purpose and fulfillment, and I would say that is my favorite part of the job.”
We’re so thankful to Gale for sharing her Dream with us, and for Kolin’s servant heart that helped make their Dream Day so special!
